Television and Internet
Each patient room is equipped with a television. All channels can be accessed at no charge. If your television is not working properly, please ask a member of your health care team for help. Please be considerate of others by keeping the TV volume
down. Wi-Fi access is available in each patient room and throughout the hospital complex.
Patient Services
During your hospital stay, if you or your representative need to speak with someone who understands hospital procedures and assist with non-medical problems or concerns, you may contact the Department of Patient Services. Patient Advocates are familiar
with services provided by the hospital and will assist in answering questions that may arise during your stay. Patient Advocates are available 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday – Friday, by dialing (832) 632-7009 or at (409) 772-4772. Should you
need assistance after hours, please ask to speak with the Clinical Operations Administrator (COA).
Language Access Services
Access to professionally-trained interpreters is provided for patients who prefer to discuss health care information in a language other than English. Interpreters fluent in American Sign Language and in more than 225 spoken languages are available
24/7. Interpreters may be available in-person, over the phone, or via video remote interpreting. A member of your health care team can contact an over-the-phone interpreter by dialing (409) 747-2121. Other modes of interpreting are available by
contacting Patient Services at (409) 772-4772.
Clinical Ethics Consultation
At UTMB, we recognize that each person has a unique perspective on health care-related decisions. The increasing complexity of health care can sometimes raise ethical questions that cause confusion, anxiety or uncertainty about what course of action
to take. Any patient caregiver, family member or health care professional needing to discuss such questions is welcome to contact our service for assistance in making challenging health care decisions. Ethics consultations are available 24 hours
a day, 7 days a week. For more information or to request a consult, please call our Clinical Ethics Service at (409) 747-1230 or page (409) 643-9650.
Pastoral Care
UTMB believes in providing care to the spiritual, as well as the physical and emotional, needs of each patient. Members of the Pastoral Care staff are available several days a week to assist you, whatever your faith tradition. A peaceful meditation
space is located on the second floor, near the cafeteria in room # 2105. The meditation room is open 24 hours, 7 days a week for prayer and meditation. You may contact our offices at (832) 632-7094 or at (409) 772-3909 or ask your nurse to place
a consult request for a Healthcare Chaplain. Also, please know, your own faith leader/spiritual guide is always welcome to visit you while you are in our hospital.
Personal Belongings
UTMB Health strongly recommends that patients leave valuables at home or send them home with a friend or family member. For items that require special care, such as eyeglasses, dentures and hearing aids, ask your nurse to assist you in caring for
these items. Please take care not to leave any of these items on your meal tray or lying on your bed as they may be accidentally lost when your room is cleaned. The hospital is not responsible for the replacement of lost or damaged personal items
in patient rooms or waiting areas.
Gifts
Floral Deliveries
Flowers will be delivered to patient rooms, except for patients in our Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Please keep in mind that large plants and flowers are difficult to deliver and must be removed upon discharge.
Gifts for Patients
Visitors should check with the nurse before bringing gifts of food or drink to patients. On the Intensive Care Unit, please check with the unit regarding any gifts for patients.

To provide a healthy and comfortable environment for our patients, visitors and employees, the use of all tobacco products is prohibited everywhere on the UTMB Health campus. This includes all buildings, patient rooms, stairwells, and outdoor grounds.
This “tobacco free” policy is strictly enforced.

In the event you have been discharged, mail will be returned to the sender unless other arrangements are made by the patient or patient’s family prior to discharge. The Mail Services Department may be contacted at (832) 632-7253.
