Through vital partnerships with UTMB Health, The Ruth Kempner Endowment for Breast Cancer Screening, The Texas Breast and Cervical Cancer Services, UTMB Regional Women’s Services, and UTMB Cares are collaborating to provide free screening mammograms for uninsured women in our community.

In efforts to reach these women, UTMB Health brings the mobile mammography coach to Galveston County locations to increase access to care. Uninsured program participants DO NOT need to be members of any community group or organization to receive a free screening mammogram. Women have peace of mind knowing the UTMB breast radiologists are Fellowship-trained and are experts in breast imaging. As of October 2023, over 1,900 women have been screened for breast cancer through this mobile mammography program.

How to Participate

Participants will need to PRE-REGISTER for the program by completing the registration packet. Please download these forms (English / Spanish) and fax the completed documents directly to the UTMB Mobile Mammography Coordinator at 832-505-1451. Interested participants may also obtain a registration packet from the UTMB Galveston Breast Imaging Department (2nd floor of the University Hospital Clinics Building), or the UTMB League City Campus Breast Imaging Department (2nd floor).

The following eligibility criteria are necessary to participate:

  • Legal resident of Galveston County
  • Over 40 years of age
  • Uninsured Participants cannot have mammogram coverage through any insurance including Medicaid and/or Medicare.
  • Not pregnant
  • Have not received a mammogram in the past 12 months.
  • No personal history of breast cancer in the past 5 years
  • No current breast pain, breast discharge, or palpable breast abnormality
  • Must complete and sign the application and consent forms
