Pre-Participation Physicals

Busy summer ahead? Let us help you get ready

All students (Grades 7 – 12) who plan to participate in any school sport, band (high school only), and/or cheer at the junior high and/or high school level this summer or for the upcoming school year should schedule a Pre-Participation Physical Exam.

Texas UIL rules require that all students must have a completed Certificate for Athletics on file in their high school athletic training room before they are allowed to participate in any tryout, practice session (including athletic periods), scrimmage, game or match. Some camps and other summer activities also require participant physicals.

If your child or teen still needs one, we can help. Students can have their pre-participation physical exams completed at UTMB Health Pediatric Primary Care clinics and Urgent Care locations.

If your child has not had their annual well child check, they may be able to have a well child check and pre-participation physical signed at the same time; check with your clinic for this option (urgent care sites do not offer well child checkups). If your child just needs a pre-participation physical and it is not covered by your insurance, we offer them for a flat rate of $38.

To save time, please bring your school’s Pre-Participation Physical Form with all sections of the forms completed except for the actual physical examination section prior to your appointment.
