CareLink Two Factor Authentication

Two-factor authentication is an extra layer of security used to verify the identity of the CareLink user accessing your account. Two-factor authentication for your UTMB CareLink account will require you to login with your username and password and then enter a single-use code that will be sent to your email address or generated through an authenticator mobile app.

When you log into UTMB CareLink for the first time after two-factor authentication is enabled, you will be prompted to choose a method of receiving the single-use code. You can either choose to have the code sent to your email or an authenticator mobile app. After choosing your preferred method, on-screen prompts will guide you through set up.

If you choose the mobile app for two-factor authentication, you will need to select, download, and install an authenticator mobile app such as Duo Mobile, Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator on your mobile device so that you can receive single-use authentication codes. Once the mobile authorization application is installed, scan the unique QR code or manually enter the code provided on the UTMB CareLink screen.

If you choose the email method of two-factor authentication, you will be prompted to register your preferred email address to receive your single-use authentication code.

Logging into UTMB CareLink with 2-Factor Authentication:

After setting up a 2-Factor Authentication method, CareLink will prompt you to enter in your authentication code upon login. Enter in the single-use code provided by your authentication method.   

Below are some recommended Mobile Authentication Applications we have tested and approved.

• Duo Mobile (by: Duo Security LLC)
• Google Authenticator (By: Google LLC)
• Microsoft Authenticator (By: Microsoft Corporation)

The reset code you received after setting up your authenticator mobile app or registering your email address can be used to reset your authentication method in the event you need to update or change your authentication method in the future. Please keep track of your unique reset code. If you need to reset your authentication method but have lost your reset code, please contact a UTMB CareLink system administrator at (409) 772-5200 and select option 4.

The next time you login, the system will automatically send you a single-use code to your registered email address or prompt you for the code provided by your authenticator mobile app. Two-factor authentication will be required each time you login unless you select the “remember me” checkbox to have the system remember you on the specific browser you accessed CareLink from. If you check the “remember me” box, CareLink will not prompt you for an authentication code on that same browser for 90 days.
