For 50 years, the country has dedicated one week a year to honoring team members in the emergency medical services field. Running from May 19-25, EMS Week is a time for all of us at UTMB Health to say thanks and pay homage to our partners in the field. Without them, we couldn’t do what we do every day. The Texas Department of State Health Services has named the University of Texas Medical Branch’s League City Campus as an Advanced Level III Trauma Facility.

CPAN is a network of child psychiatry access centers that provides child and adolescent behavioral health consultation services and training opportunities for pediatricians and primary care providers. The network features 12 regional hubs each equipped to provide free, phone-based consultations to physicians concerning children’s mental health needs. Mental health providers consult on patient behavioral issues, can advise you about available resources, or connect you to a child psychiatrist within 30 minutes of making your call.

UTMB and Children’s Memorial Hermann are collaborating to expand pediatric inpatient and emergency services to the rapidly growing Clear Lake/Bay Area region, by opening a pediatric inpatient unit and pediatric emergency department at UTMB’s state-of-the-art Clear Lake Campus.

Dr. David Callender, UTMB's president, has announced that effective September 1, he will join the Memorial Hermann Health System in Houston as its president and chief executive officer. The University of Texas System will soon name an interim president to lead UTMB while the national search for a new president progresses.

On July 15, Dr. Timothy Harlin began to serve as executive vice president and chief executive officer of the UTMB Health System. Harlin is working alongside the health system’s current leader, Donna Sollenber, until her retirement Aug. 31. Harlin most recently served as chief operating and acceleration officer at Denver Health and Hospital Authority in Colorado—an academic integrated health system that includes a 555-bed acute care hospital, nine Federally Qualified Health Centers, a health plan, emergency medical services, the Rocky Mountain Poison & Drug Center and correctional care services.
