UTMB Digital, Marketing & Outreach efforts earn top awards

Various projects and initiatives produced and spearheaded by the UTMB Health Community Engagement and Marketing and Communications teams have recently earned recognition and awards from two industry organizations.

Among the efforts recognized—by the Healthcare Advertising Awards and the Hermes Creative Awards—were the creative ways UTMB maintained a presence in the community throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as campaigns promoting a variety of topics and service areas, including the new UTMB Health Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics clinic, COVID-19 vaccines, Primary Care and more.

UTMB digital assets, such as the ever-evolving Find a Doc online directory and the new Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics website, also garnered top honors from both organizations. Both of those projects, and many of the others acknowledged, were possible thanks to the team’s careful, intentional collaboration with a variety of other departments and groups across the institution, including the Faculty Group Practice, Information Services, the COVID-19 Clinical Task Force and others.

“These awards are a culmination of the immense hard work, creativity and teamwork exhibited across UTMB every day,” said Stephen Hadley, executive director of Marketing and Media Communications at UTMB. “While the accolades are a welcomed new addition to the groups’ portfolios, the dedication behind them is a constant seen in everything our team does.”

Merged during a restructure in late 2020, the UTMB Community Engagement and Marketing and Communications teams have both made noticeable shifts to the ways they work to keep up with the ever-evolving needs and priorities of UTMB and the communities it serves.

“About six months into the pandemic, we made a conscious effort to really ramp up our outreach and marketing efforts in ways we’ve never done before,” said Becky Korenek, executive vice president, Business Development and Chief Strategy Officer. “This team has risen to the challenge on every occasion and continues to use their talents to creatively further the mission of UTMB.”

39th Annual Healthcare Advertising Awards

Recognized as the oldest, largest and most widely respected health care advertising awards competition, the Healthcare Advertising Awards received more than 4,400 submissions for consideration this year. A national panel of judges was engaged in reviewing all entries based on creativity, quality, message effectiveness, consumer appeal, graphic design and overall impact. Gold awards were given to 512 entries, silver awards to 360 entries and bronze awards to 249 entries.

Hermes Creative Awards 2022 competition

An international awards competition for creative professionals involved in the concept, writing and design of traditional and emerging media, the Hermes Creative Awards recognizes outstanding work in the industry while promoting the philanthropic nature of marketing and communication professionals. This year, more than 6,500 entries were received from corporate marketing and communication departments, advertising agencies, PR firms, design shops, production companies, and freelancers throughout the United States, Canada and 26 other countries. The competition is administered and judged by the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals (AMCP), which is the industry’s preeminent third-party evaluator of creative work. The organization has judged over 200,000 entries since its formation in 1994.
