New Hospital Building - Friendswood Clinic

UTMB Health Friendswood clinic moves, expands to offer more primary, specialty care services

UTMB Health has officially opened its new Primary and Specialty Care Clinic in Friendswood, expanding access to high-quality health care for the growing community. Located at 1715 S. Friendswood Drive, the new facility replaces the previous location with a larger space designed to improve patient experience and enhance the range of available services.

The decision to relocate and expand the clinic was driven by the increasing population in Friendswood and the need for greater access to specialty care.

"We wanted to expand our services to keep care closer to home, ensuring patients can receive the treatment they need within their own communities,” Stephanie Pharr, Director of UTMB Health Ambulatory Operations said.

The new clinic features 48 exam rooms—more than double the number at the previous location—allowing for a more efficient patient flow and reduced wait times.

New and expanded specialty services

One of the most significant upgrades is the expansion of specialty care services available within the clinic. Previously, many patients had to be referred to other locations for specialized treatment.

Now, the Friendswood clinic offers on-site care in:
  • Cardiology
  • Gastroenterology
  • Neurology
  • Orthopedics
By bringing these services in house, UTMB Health aims to reduce the need for travel while ensuring patients receive the care they need in a convenient location.

"We analyzed which specialties we were referring patients to most often and which services required them to travel outside their ZIP code,” Pharr said. “Our goal with the new Friendswood clinic was to bring those specialties closer to home, making care more accessible and convenient."

Enhanced patient and provider experience

The new clinic also introduces several features designed to improve both patient and provider experience:
  • On-site pharmacy: This allows patients to fill their prescriptions immediately after their appointments and provides an opportunity to speak with a pharmacist about any questions or concerns regarding their medications.
  • Expanded imaging: The expanded imaging services include two radiology rooms, on-site ultrasound capabilities and the ability to perform stress tests and echo exams.
  • Social workers: Social workers are available to assist patients with navigating health care challenges and accessing necessary support services.
  • Provider amenities: Health care professionals now have dedicated office space to enhance workflow and collaboration.
A commitment to education

As part of its mission, UTMB Health remains committed to training future health care providers. The Friendswood clinic continues to serve as a teaching site for learners across various disciplines, ensuring that the next generation of health care professionals gain hands-on experience while supporting the local community.

“We believe it's crucial to develop new physicians and mid-levels who are passionate about working and serving in their communities,” Pharr.

Looking ahead

UTMB Health is dedicated to adapting to the evolving needs of the Friendswood community. Plans are already underway to add more providers, including a new pediatrician joining in September, and expand services based on community demand.

"We are always evaluating what services we can bring in-house to better serve our patients," Pharr said.
